Castleford potteries

Red earthenware chamberpot found during excavations at HM Prison. It is said to have been made at Castleford in about 1740.

Saggar used to hold pottery during firing in the kiln, to protect the pots from direct heat. This saggar was collected from Clokie and Co. Ltd. after the pottery closed in 1961.

Mould for a plaque showing the head of Neville Chanberlain, Prine Minister from 1937-40, collected from Clokie and Co. Ltd. after the pottery closed in 1961. There is also a plaque made from this mould in the museum collections.

A large mixing bowl with inscriptions and drawings scratched in the yellow glaze of the inside. They include plants, a butterfly and a horse. The bowl was a present from Castleford to Amelia Hartley of Stanley on 5th January 1903.

One of two pottery figurines of a young woman wearing a long dress, made from 1972-4 at Brown and Sons in Ferrybridge. Identical figurines were made earlier by Clokie and Co. Ltd. in Castleford, as there are two Clokie's moulds for this shape of figurine in the museum collections.

Jug with square body handpainted on two parallel sides with bright orange and yellow flowers, made by Clokie and Co. in the 1930s. It is marked on the base with the design name ENA.
